Optical network solutions

The ID100/ID200 is a versatile chip for plastic optical fiber (POF) networks linking devices at high data rates. The IC provides two interfaces: Firstly the POF modem which connects to the optical transceiver and, secondly, the Ethernet MAC’s configurable media independent interface (G/MII). The (G/MII) typically connects to an Ethernet PHY or host controller. Layer 2 protocol features include the optical and Ethernet MAC, switching data streams, bandwidth management and device detection. The device reads the configuration from an external E2PROM, host controller or configuration pins. From the application view point, the chip behaves like an Ethernet MAC and hence connects to standard Ethernet interfaces and drivers. This enables rapid system development and integration.

ID100
The ID100 is a versatile chip optimized for high performance Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) networks.
It contains an Optical Physical interface (PHY) enabling 100 Mbps data transmissions over low-cost Si-POF fiber.

The IC can be divided into 4 functional blocks:

  • Optical Physical Interface (PHY)
  • Fiber Media Access Control (Fiber MAC)
  • Switch Engine
  • 100Mb/s Cable Media Access Control (Cable MAC)

ID200
The ID200 is a versatile chip optimized for high performance Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) networks.
It contains an Optical Physical interface (PHY) enabling 200Mbps data transmissions over low-cost Si-POF fiber.

The IC can be divided into 5 functional blocks:

  • Optical Physical Interface (PHY)
  • Forward Error Correction (FEC)
  • Fiber Media Access Control (Fiber MAC)
  • Switch Engine
  • 1Gbps Cable Media Access Control (Cable MAC)

The configuration registers can be programmed via the SPI-Bus (external E2PROM/Host controller) or configuration pins.
The ID100/ID200 combines performance and low power into a single pack.
